East Coast Mavericks Explorer Scout Unit gives young people aged 14 to 18 the opportunity to take their Scouting adventure to the next level.

Based in Leven, East Coast Mavericks brings together young people from across the local area for a programme packed with adventure, challenges, new experiences and opportunities to develop skills for life.

Explorers have more freedom to shape what they do, take on greater challenges and get involved in experiences that take them well beyond the weekly meeting.

Who Are Explorers?

Explorer Scouts are for young people aged 14 to 18.

Explorers is about taking on new challenges, developing independence and having more opportunities to decide what you want to get out of Scouts.

You don\’t need to have been a Scout before to join. Whether you\’re moving up from Scouts or completely new to Scouting, you\’ll be welcomed into the Unit and given plenty of opportunities to get involved.

What We Get Up To

At East Coast Mavericks, no two weeks need to look the same.

Our programme is shaped with our Explorers and can include outdoor adventures, practical skills, team challenges, cooking, navigation, community projects, social activities and plenty more.

As an Explorer, you\’ll have more opportunities to take the lead, make decisions and help shape the activities and adventures you want the Unit to take on.

It\’s about trying new things, pushing yourself a little further and having a great time with friends along the way.

Bigger Adventures

Explorers opens the door to some of the biggest opportunities available in Scouts.

There are opportunities for camps, expeditions, activity weekends, trips and larger events, both locally and further afield.

Explorers can also work towards badges, Challenge Awards and Top Awards, giving you the chance to set yourself goals and achieve something you\’re genuinely proud of.

Whether it\’s heading away for a weekend, taking on an expedition or experiencing something completely new, there\’s always another adventure waiting.

Skills for Life

Explorer Scouts isn\’t just about what you do – it\’s also about what you learn along the way.

You\’ll have opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, communication, problem solving and practical life skills while becoming more confident and independent.

You can also get involved in the Explorer Scout Young Leaders\’ Scheme, volunteering alongside adult volunteers in younger Scout sections and developing your own leadership skills.

Our Volunteer Team

East Coast Mavericks is supported by a team of volunteers who help Explorers turn their ideas into brilliant experiences.

Our volunteers are there to provide support, share their skills and help keep activities safe, while giving Explorers the freedom to take greater responsibility for their own programme and adventures.

You don\’t need previous Scouting experience to volunteer with Explorers, and there are lots of flexible ways to get involved.
